Training Camp Day 1

The Wolves site has a recap from the first day of training camp in Mankato.

Pieces of Casey's strategy were on display in the team's first comprehensive workout, featuring tough, aggressive defense, and a great deal of running.

"We want to establish a defensive identity, be a team that attacks penetration, attacks the boards, and creates offense," explained the second-year head man in Minneapolis. "On the offensive end, we want to be a running team. Push the ball in transition, push the ball to create an up-tempo type game. We want to start building that in training camp, and continue with it throughout the year."

It seems as if Mike James is indeed stepping up to the plate:
While KG is always willing to offer some help about technique or effort, he won't be the lone Wolf in that regard. As his reputation suggested, Mike James showed a willingness to speak up, especially to some of the rooks, like Tyrone Ellis of Southern Nazarene.

"I think a lot of young players are trying so hard to prove themselves and fit in, they overexert themselves and do a little bit more than what is asked for them. My focus is to let them know, you don’t have to do anything extra. Just let your talent speak for itself. It’s because of what you do on the basketball court that you are here. Let those talents take you to the next level, but don’t think about what you have to do on the court. Just play."
